CODING BIOLOGISTS: IIB FRESHERS DEVELOP SOFTWARE GAMES

In some exciting developments, students from the Institute of Integrative Biosciences recently presented software games, which they developed as part of the Introduction to Computer Science course taught by Adnan Niazi from the Department of Electrical Engineering. As part of the course students were introduced to the programming and were assigned mini-projects to develop these games on Scratch and also put up their web pages on Weebly.

'This crosstalk is the essence of the IIB curriculum', said the Director of IIB, Dr Faisal F Khan. 'Who would have thought that biotechnology majors and that too in their first year would develop little games and also put together websites? This only possible through a flexible, innovative and cross-disciplinary curriculum'. Click to view Top Scoring Presentation

DIRECTOR IIB, CECOS UNIVERSITY INTERVIEWED ON PASHTO1 CHANNEL

Dr. Faisal Khan, Director Institute of Integrative Biosciences appeared on Pashto1's Da Online Show. The discussion in the episode revolved around STEM education, Computational Biology, the role of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the dream of a startup cluster in Peshawar.

The Director touched up on some important points including the pre-engineering and pre-medical debate. He questioned why this dichotomy was imposed on students by their own parents and as an analogy asked 'Imagine if being a carpenter or a mechanic were the most secure and well-paid jobs, would it be sane to force only these two professions on our kids? Let alone design a whole education system around it. Is there nothing else in a society that needs to be catered for?'. Watch Recorded Episode
